WHERE I COME FROM
With my father working in the airline industry after he served in the army in Columbia, SC, before I was born, I grew up In Connecticut and California. Graduating from UC San Diego, I took my first post-college job as a stock analyst in a Mexico City brokerage firm. I then moved to Wall Street to become a high yield bond analyst in a top-ranked research team. After getting my MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, 9/11 happened. I took a full-time volunteer role giving grants to affected downtown-New York City businesses.
This led to my job at a risk management consulting firm assessing financial services firms' 9/11 lost-revenue insurance claims. It gave me experience in operational, credit and market risk. When my husband and I chose Tega Cay to start our family and be near my sister and dad, I took a banking supervision and regulation role at the Federal Reserve in Charlotte.
I've had this job for 20 years, and now also support community development, civic engagement, outreach, and communications. In 2012, I went "part time" at work to spend more time with my kids. And I stayed "part time" when they entered school, spending my extra time volunteering in Tega Cay and York County.
HOW THIS INFLUENCED ME
-
At UC San Diego, I learned the value and joy of active living and safe pedestrian and rolling access. I cycled to campus and spent my free time on inline skates. My social life revolved around recreational sports.
-
I learned valuable general management, leadership, and teamwork skills at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
-
My mother dying too young of a heart attack reinforced how much I cherish my family and friends, making the most of what we have, and my support for healthy communities.
-
As a full-time volunteer post 9/11, I worked with amazing volunteers and professionals helping rebuild downtown businesses. I felt empowered by our collective impact.
-
In my risk management consulting role, I honed my skill of explaining complex concepts in a simple manner, to enable conclusions to be made and actions to be taken.
MY FAMILY
I met my husband, Aaron, snowboarding in Chile 30 years ago and we continue our adventures together. He subs and volunteers in the FMSD and coaches our kids' teams, having retired from the financial industry. Our children are: Charlie, a freshman at Dartmouth College who enjoys politics, economics, Spanish, and water polo; Harry, a FMHS student who plays any sport or activity he can; and Josie, a GHMS student who enjoys basketball, student council, reading, and baking.
Our family takes advantage of the Tega Cay amenities. You can find us playing disc golf at Lookout Park; shooting hoops on local courts; running on the trails; and trying out the tennis and pickleball courts.
Our favorite day in Tega Cay is July 4th, where we:
-
lead Tega Cay Healthy Kids biking in the parade
-
volunteer at the Lions Club fish fry
-
cheer on the boat parade and water skiers and may eve paddleboard joust at Windjammer
-
And somehow staying awake long enough to watch the fireworks!
If you see us out, please say hello. (Find this, and more, on the Tega Cay Healthy Kids Facebook page.)
